Logitech S150: Miniature USB 1.2W Speakers with Inbuilt Controls

Logitech S150

Searching for cheap and exceptionally small speakers for your PC or laptop, you should definitely pay some attention to the Logitech S150 speakers. They belong to the same series as the S120. The S150 and the S120 are pretty similar, but the reviewed model is more suitable for people who don't need a too loud speaker system.

Dimensions

These speakers are clearly designed for portability and can save a fair amount of space. Each of them is sized at 17.8 x 14.6 x 7.1 inches and fit in the palm of the hand. They are also very lightweight — one speaker weighs a bit more than one pound, so you can easily transport them along with your laptop.

Features

The Logitech S150 USB speakers with digital sound use a USB interface for connection, offering you the convenience of a plug-and-play solution. Thus, you can connect them to a large variety of devices. You also don't have to think about an initial setup: just plug them in and that's all. Since the speakers don't need an outlet for powering, you avoid dealing with lots of cabling.

The speakers come with a 4-foot USB cable. The cable connecting two speakers is 5 feet long, so you can place them far apart from each other if you like.

The Logitech S150 drivers have 2 inches in diameter. The speakers have a solid frequency response of 90Hz to 20kHz and output 0.6W per speaker (1.2W in total).

These diminutive speakers can give you a pretty rich sound if you play with settings a bit since they definitely require some calibration. Nevertheless, they are still better than inbuilt speakers in most laptops. They also aren't demanding, so you can use any sound-enhancing program.

I was able to make the sound even louder than it was out of the box using a Windows equalizer (however, if you aren't planning to sit far from the speakers, even the default volume will be enough for basic needs). Plus, I boosted the bass a little bit and made the sound more volumetric. Fortunately, they don't emit buzzing and hissing sounds even at high volumes: this problem would be much difficult to solve.

The overall sound is satisfying for the price even though it requires some adjustment, so I give it 8/10.

Design

The S150 and S120 look very similar. The difference is just in the arrangement of controls and in the grill (the S150 uses a cloth grill the other model uses a plastic one). Each Logitech S150 USB digital speaker comes in a black matte enclosure and is almost entirely made of plastic. Fortunately, there is no plastic odor. As for me, they look modern and stylish.

There is an orange LED Power light, volume up/down, and mute buttons at the bottom of the right speaker's front panel, so you can easily reach them. There is no power button, so they can be powered on/off only when you connect/disconnect them. I was also disappointed by the lack of a headphone jack.

So, I estimated the speaker's design at 8/10.

Conclusion

As you can see from this Logitech S150 review, these speakers are simple to set up and use, and they are offered for a good value. They have a lot of chances to satisfy the needs of those people who don't need a lot of volume, wireless connection, top-quality sound, and advanced features.
